Why do dogs need packaged dog food instead of home-cooked food?

Dogs have different nutritional requirements from humans and the food you eat might be harmful to your pet! Home-cooked meals, unless prepared by veterinary nutritionists, lack in the basic nutrients required for the healthy growth and development of your pet. Packaged pet foods, on the other hand, offer guaranteed nutrition, palatability, digestibility, safety, and convenience. Does my puppy really need a special puppy dog food?

Yes. Puppies grow rapidly; thus, they need adequate calories and nutrients. In fact, they need proteins, certain amino acids, and other nutrients in right proportions. Calcium and phosphorus are important minerals during the growth stage, and only specially-designed food for puppy dogs can ensure that your little one receives all the nutrients. Small and toy breed puppies need to be fed puppy dog food until they are 9 months old. Medium breeds need to be fed puppy dog food until they are 12 months old, large breeds until they are 18-month-old and giant breeds need to be fed puppy dog food until they are 24 months old.
